Crazed Ramblings from My Mind:
Repeat after me, "Anybody But Bush 2004!" "Anybody But Bush 2004!" "Anybody But Bush 2004!" Got that? Good, now remember it
when you vote this November. I don't care if the
teenaged Frankenstein gets the nomination, he
is still better than Bush! By the way, I do prefer Edwards over Kerry. It's not really important, I just thought I'd let
everyone know.
I just read a very powerful and poignant letter written by Mr. Stan
Goff, who retired from the U.S. Army after serving in
Vietnam. By now I hope most people realize that the war in Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with our safety, liberating the
Iraqis, or weapons of mass destruction. These were all excuses used by our leaders to convince people to fight an enemy who,
in all reality, was in no more position to attack our nation than a fluffy kitten could win a fight against an adult Doberman
Pinscher.
This has got to be one of the funniest sites I've seen in a
long time. It had me laughing so hard I was choking. If Rachel and Reba are reading this post, I hope to never see your
bridesmaids dress on there. Especially since I let you guys pick your own dresses!
Woohoo! The archive page is finally updated. Now you can relive those classic Huluhae moments. Forty-nine beautifully written
issues to chose from folks. All there for when you have nothing better to do with your life than read or re-read my yammerings.
And a quick note to say that my letter to the editor was published by the Peoria Journal Star. Unfortunately, the link has
already expired so I can't put it on here.
Matt's Rant:
Wow, my Wednesday to Saturday weekend was quite amazing as far as fodder for the Anybody But Bush (ABB) folks goes...
First up, USAToday article
about how American job seekers are giving up looking for work. Guess that dip in the unemployment rate wasn't new jobs being
created.
Next, what I have suspected all along, the Bush administration
SUPPORTS the practice of
American companies sending jobs
overseas. Reneé and I now have a bumper sticker on our cars stating this very fact. Now, someone, please reassure me that
George W. Bush cares about those of us who have to work to put food on the table!
And the FOXNews article that was on the front page for less than 3 hours then disappeared. It was not even to be found in the
Politics section. Can't let this little doozy
slip out, eh?
And finally some current news about an area relatively close to us geographically - Galesburg. That's right, the Galesburg
Maytag plant has begun closing down - moving to Mexico. 1600 people immediately affected. That, of course, doesn't count all
the businesses that depend on the plant and plant employees to survive.
But, the Bush Administration says this is GOOD for America. These folks will just find better jobs! What a coincidence!
Here's a report from CNN money
that lists the top growth in jobs from now until 2012. Six of the ten jobs or 2.7 million jobs
are firmly in the McJob class - minimum wage, minimum skill, no benefits. I found it amusing that they predict 603,000 post
secondary education posts. Are these the trainer positions for the McJobs?
Fact! Opinion! Whatever!
Here is an article that should help
even the most loyal of Bush supporters understand that his great love of outsourcing each and every job he can get his hands
on doesn't help our country in the slightest. You see, there are still a lot of people duped into believing this
administrations lies about "Hey, dude, we're shipping your job to Timbuktu. But that's okay! A brand-new job will drop into
your lap from the magical job fairy in the sky. She'll also send training for your new job, money to support your family, pay
your bills, and buy food and clothing while you're out of work. It's a can't lose situation!" Well, guess what? If you
believe that, my dear, you are being taken for a ride.
A great example is in the above article, which mentions that if
Radiologists suddenly become a dime a dozen in India, then we'll just start outsourcing those jobs overseas along with all
the others. This isn't a fast food job we're talking about here. A Radiologist is a medical doctor who completed a four-year
residency in either diagnostic radiology or radiation oncology. This is a career that takes many years of college, and many
thousands of dollars in student loans to complete. And now Bush and Co. are trying to persuade us that if someone loses a job
like Radiology it'll easily be replaced with a new job? Frankly, I don't buy that. Oh, I'm sure he or she would have job
offers, but will they pay as much as being a Radiologist? Would their student loans ever be repaid? Will they be living the
life they expected to live as they struggled through those long hours in medical college? The answer, of course, is a
resounding no. Outsourcing needs to stop. It's not just the factory and IT workers who need worry any more. This is a problem
that can affect all of us, and we need to make our voices heard. American jobs should stay in America and be worked by Americans.
It's just that simple.
